The CARICATURA VI presents in a big festival in Kassel, taking place parallel to the documenta 13,
master and junior cartoonists from and new trends of Komische Kunst in German-speaking countries
(D, A, CH) as well as four other European countries (B, NL, UK, IS).
Stars and established cartoonists as well as junior cartoonists will be curated by recognised institutions
in the respective country. Thus, the partner-museums and -festivals get not only the opportunity to
present themselves during the world art exhibition in Kassel, but also to present the actual state of
Komische Kunst in their country.
The joint European presentation is not limited to painted and drawn humour but shows apart from
objects, installations and medial art also stage art and performances. The international exchange is
supplemented by a forum of the cartoonists where apart from live-drawing-events the visitors are supposed
to get the opportunity to meet the artists.
During the CARICATURA VI with about 120 artists from eight European countries more than 25.000
visitors are expected.

For almost 25 years now, the CARICATURA has provided exhibitions and events and has made a
major contribution to networking in the field of Komische Kunst. During this time more than 100 exhibitions
were produced, some of which were shown in neighbouring Europe.
With the gallery in Kassel (since 1995), the affiliated agency (since 1999) and the museum in Frankfurt
(since 2008) the Caricatura is involved in every relevant field of
presentation, mediation and organisation of Komische Kunst.
Since 1987 the Caricatura accompanies the world art exhibition
documenta regularly with a large overview exhibition of Komische
Kunst.
During the CARICATURA V in 2007 the Caricatura established
an Academy for Komische Kunst. In one-week workshops
(Summer Academies) taking place once a year junior cartoonists
are educated by well-established artists and stars of the scene.
The Summer Academy was carried out successfully already for
the fifth time in 2011. Parallel to the Academy the Caricatura
intensified the support of young artists. Classes of the University
of Art in Kassel regularly presented their artworks in the gallery.
Book releases of junior cartoonists were presented in the
Caricatura in Kassel.

At the same time the Caricatura more and more focuses on international Komische Kunst with big
shows in the Caricatura Museum Frankfurt, for example with Jean-Marc Reiser and Tomi Ungerer, with
co-operations with institutions and touring exhibitions in Poland, Turkey, Italy and Mexico and with a big
show with American star-cartoonists of the "New Yorker" in the Caricatura in Kassel. So, contacts to
international artists and museums were established and intensified.
During the CARICATURA VI these two lines (the support of junior cartoonists and internationality) are
going to merge.
