Gatis Šļūka was born in 1979 in Cesis, Latvia. His first cartoon was published in the newspaper "Communications News" in 1993. Since 1998, working for the newspaper "Latvijas Avize Šļūka Gatis", draws cartoons for the sports journal "Sporta Avize" and also for many other magazines. It also acts as a freelance illustrator in advertising, book illustration, design and packaging, etc. Enjoys working with different media, and integrating its work into new artistic strategies, such as ink, colored pencil, pixel, vector art and animation. In 2005, he received a master's degree in fine arts at the Academy of fine arts of Latvia in Riga. He graduated from the courses in the animačnom study also "Latvia". Since 2001, participates in the exhibitions of cartoons in Latvia, the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Greece, India, Belgium, Mexico, Italy, Argentina and exhibitions prints in Latvia, Estonia and Russia. In 2005, won the prize for the best idea and the audience award at the "Festival filmmakers Ahun" in Riga and the third prize to-4. International Cartoon Contest 2008 in India. He illustrated several books and in 2006 he published his book of cartoons "Šļūka – Gatis Karikaturas". Is the creator and Director of many animated films. Gatis Šļūka lives and works in Riga, Latvia.
