We are honored to invite you to participate in the “SAVE THE EARTH EXHIBITION” at the International Association of Athletics Federation World Championships (IAAF) Daegu 2011, which will be held in Daegu, Korea from August 27 to September 4, 2011. The Exhibition aims to commemorate the observance of the United Nations Decade for Deserts(UNCCD) and the Fight against Desertification (2010-2020), and enhance public awareness on the environment, especially sustainable land management.
Future Forest led by Kwon Byong Hyon, first Sustainable Land Management Champion of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), is hosting the exhibition together with the Organizing Committee for the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011 and the UNDDD. As you know well, the IAAF Championships is one of the three major global sports events along with the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup.
The UNDDD was launched by the United Nations to raise awareness and prompt action that will protect the world’s drylands from further deterioration and degradation. It is spearheaded by the Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, in collaboration with the Department of Public information (DPI) of the UN Secretariat in New York, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and other relevant UN bodies.
The Championships is a perfect platform to publicize the importance of sustainable land management because the event will draw big crowds and public attention from all parts of the world. Through this “Save the Earth Exhibition”, we would like to showcase the most objective and constructive message to the all participants of the Championships, world media and other fellow global citizens..
Needless to say, we cannot enjoy athletics if our land turns into a desert. The exhibition also aims to emphasize the importance of sustainable land management and environmental conservation for our future. Many of the world’s most famous athletes such as Usain Bolt from Jamaica, Yelena Isinbayeva from Russia and Liu Xiang from China will participate in the Championships. In order to link these sports stars to the exhibition’s purpose, it is recommended to depict those athletes championing the theme of the exhibition ‘Save the Earth.’
The exhibition is of a non-profit nature. All the works to be exhibited will be in-kind contribution provided through voluntary participation. The collection is intended to be about 100 works, and will include editorial cartoons delivering messages from top-class cartoonist as well as art works by youth from all over the world. Future Forest and the Organizing Committee for the IAAF Championships Daegu 2011 will select the qualifying exhibits. This will ensure that all the works to be presented meet the objective of the exhibition.
Your cooperation and participation in saving the Earth will be highly appreciated.
